For those of you who came along to our TEDxGlasgow 2014 event back in June, you’ll know that it was a day packed with inspirational talks, top entertainment and awe-inspiring individuals. After many months of backstage planning, the team are over the moon to finally be able to announce full details for this year’s main event with the theme ‘Why Not Here?’
So, get it in your diary, TEDxGlasgow 2015 will be held on Friday the 12th of June 2015, at the stunning Tramway in the southside of Glasgow.
Building on the successes of last year, 2015 aims to leverage our growing community and network in order to bolster our impact and influence on both a local and global scale.
Scotland may be small, but it is mighty. With a population of less than 5.5 million, Scotland has contributed an overwhelming amount per capita to global innovation and advancement. Our diaspora spreads far and wide, taking our drive, spirit and ideas to all corners of the globe. As a budding centre for culture, science and technology, why can’t we implement more change right here, right now? What’s stopping us from becoming the city/country where people aspire to live, work, study and visit?
This year’s conference theme is ‘Why Not Here?’ – A purposefully provocative question that seeks to inspire a new vision by challenging us to reconsider our surroundings. We want to provoke a shift in mindset that makes you think – why not in your home, in your street, in your workplaces? Why not Glasgow? Why not TEDxGlasgow? Why not here?
We’ve all been to the usual venues to hear the same old speakers and see them same old faces. But when we walked into the Tramway we knew it was the right fit for TEDxGlasgow. Where else could we choose for such an innovative, exciting programme that is going to stretch your thinking and introduce you to some of the leading thinkers from across Scotland?
The main event will be hosted in T1, an industrial behemoth of a space that’s as big and as imposing as the talks you will hear there. It’s literally going to blow your mind! But that’s not all, we’ll be taking over most of the rest of the building to give you an all-encompassing, cross-sensory experience that you won’t forget. And fingers crossed, that rare beast the Glaswegian sunshine will show face so that you can make the most of the beautiful Hidden Gardens with fellow curious minds.
As well as being an industrial cathedral, the Tramway is a contemporary, innovative and unique venue at the heart of Glasgow’s arts and culture community. It’s a space where people are “welcomed to witness, engage, experience, participate, to be challenged and to learn”, which is exactly what we aspire to do at TEDxGlasgow.
We’ll be opening up a call for world-class speakers on Friday 25th March 2015 and also a form to register your interest in tickets early next month. Keep up to date with all the latest here!
