It’s year 7 of TEDxGlasgow and we feel we are just about to start on an epic part of the next chapter.
Over the years we have built a solid platform for sharing ideas worth doing, curating communities from all sectors, sharing talks with millions of people and being a catalyst for impact. We have grown from 100 participants to 4000 in 2018, making TEDxGlasgow one of the top ten independently organised TEDx events in the world.
Glasgow as a city is up there with some of the biggest cities across the global from Amsterdam, Sydney, San Francisco to Berlin. Pretty incredible. It’s all thanks to the incredible volunteers, speakers, partners and participants, who believe in everything we do and the great things that come from sharing their ideas worth doing.
I believe we do more good together and it’s fantastic to have a really broad mix of private and public-sector partners including; Virgin Money, Glasgow City Council, Accenture, Scotland Is Now and J. P. Morgan all on board (see full list below). And our Partners have also been key to our success, they bring their staff and clients, expertise and knowledge and openly share their challenges and opportunities with our diverse community and gain insights out-with their peer group. Crucially they help underwrite the cost of the event which then allows us to offer great value on ticket pricing, opening the event to great minds from all parts of society. All of our Partners are incredible in their support, the event just wouldn’t happen without them.
The next chapter as we head into our seventh year will see a fusion of this work and more, and to do this we are very excited to have alongside us some critical Partners. Never before have we felt that Scotland is at a crossroads quite like this and the next few years are so critical for each and everyone of us. It’s an incredible time to connect as this year’s TEDx theme suggest.
For example, our partnership with Scotland is Now, Principal Partner, allows us to leverage the TEDx platform and community, showcasing groundbreaking ideas from Scotland to Scots, the world and from the world to Scotland. TEDxGlasgow is an event born in Glasgow but made for the world – attracting global speakers to our country and building our reputation as an innovative, collaborative and open nation. It gives TEDxGlasgow an opportunity to reach millions more people with ideas through our global live stream and free talks published online.
We hope to continue to increase our reach over the next few years and we have to be bold and brave to achieve this, and we are fortunate enough to have a great team and great partners and great participants, supporting us.
Behind the scenes we have an incredible line up of competent and passionate volunteers that make this happen. At TEDx we provide a space where volunteers can explore their hobbies and over the years we have even seen these become their professions.
Our speakers go through so much, what initially seems like a great idea soon becomes an epic journey of deep diving introspection and challenging one’s beliefs and assumptions… all guided by our wonderful speaker coaches.
We all want to have a Scotland with a positive mindset, not be afraid to use its creativity, to share ideas and raise ambitions and improve the lifestyle of all.
That’s what we love about the TEDx platform, the ability to make change.
In fact John Booth, Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing, Scottish Enterprise, said it best when he said:
As one of the original industrial powerhouses, Scotland has long been a nation of thinkers and innovators who have made a big impact across the world. TEDxGlasgow has a track record of bringing together some of the best and brightest minds to address the opportunities and challenges facing our society and our economy, and shares our vision of a prosperous and progressive Scotland making a positive global impact.
Thank you to everyone who supports TEDxGlasgow, we look forward to seeing you on the 14th of June and I look forward to your continuing support over the coming years.
